“Cher’s Story: Name Calling Hurts"
There
once was a girl named Cher who was a good storyteller, and sometimes her stories
were even true.
Let’s
not miss her story today…..Others have already gathered around.
Cher
begins: “My mom says I have a
great imagination….Picture this: I
was walking along one day minding my own business and heard the kids spouting
off to other kids: Skunk Breath!
Dog Toe Nails! Elephant Ears! Daddy
Long Legs!”
Now the
kids calling names felt big, bad and powerful!
The picked-on kids felt so upset and sad they ran home, and some even had
tears in their eyes.
A
couple of days later, the name callers were confronted by even bigger bullies at
school who began to pick on them and call them names.
Now they knew how it felt and they couldn’t take the unkindness so they
ran home.
It
doesn’t take a lot of effort to be a name caller or bully.
It does take a little thought and consideration to be kind, considerate
and sensitive to others’ feelings.
The moral of this story: “Do and say to others what you want them to do and say to you.”
